NORTH CADBURY HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY

The North Cadbury Horticultural Society remains a lively and popular group after more than 25 years.  Members come from North Cadbury and the surrounding areas, meeting on the 3rd Wednesday of each month at the Village Hall at 7.30pm.  For an annual subscription of £6 members enjoy a varied group of speakers through September to May which offer both helpful hints and inspiration to gardeners of all abilities; whether you enjoy working in your garden from the early hours or like to survey it from the comfort of your deckchair.    Meetings end with a cup of tea or coffee and time for a chat.

In the summer outings are arranged to beautiful gardens and other places of interest, these have included the Abbey Gardens Malmesbury and Gants Mill & Gardens. A tour of some Member’s Gardens always provides ideas and usually ends with a BBQ.

The Plant Sale in May is the perfect opportunity for members and non-members alike to buy their annuals and young vegetable plants and in August everyone, from the youngest to the eldest in the family, is welcome to participate in the Annual Show whether it be showing off their smallest ripe tomato, displaying their perfect Dahlia, baking their favourite cake, or painting a picture.  Trophies are hotly contested for individual sections of Vegetables & Fruit, Flowers, Pot Plants, Floral Arrangements, Home craft and Handicrafts and for the overall show winner.

Through the year other activities are arranged depending on member’s interests; Painting Days are proving very popular and last year again raised £200 for South West Children’s Hospice Appeal.  The Flower Arranging classes in 2006 also proved a great success and led to double the entries in the Annual Show.  In December members enjoy getting together for the Annual Dinner.
